About Karla:

“When I was a child my mother used to find me in the local art gallery in Wagga Wagga where I grew up. It was next door to our library and I used to wander in there and stare at the large scale Indigenous paintings.

After years of teaching and creating in the spare time, COVID demanded an opportunity to experience being a full time artist. I held my first solo exhibition at the end of 2020 and sold most of those works opening night.”

Karla’s work examines the different forms our surrounding landscape hold. Large and looming mountainous shapes mould the backdrop for delicate stories to be shared upon closer revelation. Her work tells of exploration of the land and the emotions she captures when observing or interacting with it.

Karla studies and absorbs the curves and lines in landscape to begin the foundations for her paintings. She has shared her love of the patterns in nature through:

• “EMERGE” collection in 2020 exhibited in Byron Shire

• “The Hinterlands,” in 2021 where she continued to show intrigue with the elements in her works

• “Boulder Than Before” 2021 - an live, online exhibition held during Covid lockdown

• “HOME” 2023 - as a visual response to the floods and exploring other environments whilst seeking a home.

Karla can be found in her art studio in the Hinterlands of Byron Bay, Australia producing a new collection or working on a commission (a personal favourite!). When the studio door closes for the day, she will then pour herself a crisp Sav Blanc and begin cooking another meal for her three beautiful growing sons.
