The choice of swimming in the lower or upper was made for me upon arrival - “Lower Cascades CLOSED. Croc sighting.” The climb up over rocky terrain, following reflective markers through scrub felt exhilarating at first. But when the white cockatoo screeched at me to signal I was lost, admitted panic set in. I’d set out late in the afternoon and hadn’t planned for an overnight stay in here but further down the road at a bush camp. “Follow the sound of the water,” was wisdom shared and proved valuable advice.
The Upper Cascades were wondrous little pools; refreshing and rewarding but the adventure there was unforgettable.
